*UPDATE TO THIS POST. (3-10-09)
FYI – for those of you that read this blog via Facebook. You may have noticed that I’ve completely vanished from Facebook without a trace. Well, it’s not that I removed you from my friends or anything else! Apparently Facebook’s computerized security bots decided that I had too much activity on my account (I have over 2500 friends and use the site quite a bit) so somehow it flagged me and automatically disabled me. No warning at all.
They don’t even check to see if I was doing anything wrong. They just disabled me. One quick look at my profile would quite obviously reveal that I wasn’t doing anything inappropriate – I was just simply using their product!
I’ve sent a number of appeals to them and have not gotten anything in return. And I’m finding that this is, unfortunately, an increasingly common story for a lot of avid Facebook users. So I’m not sure if I’ll ever get my account back. However, I know Facebook is short staffed (on humans) and it’s still Monday (this happened over the weekend). I’m still a little hopeful, anyway.
In a way, it’s been a bit of a relief as I’ve had the realization over the weekend that there is indeed life outside of Facebook. 
However, the flockNote Facebook Application runs from my account (it’s throwing errors now) and I have a number of other professional and personal relationships on there that are very important to me. So I’d appreciate it if they gave it back! Time will tell.
I also got to interact and talk with many of you on there as well since it was a very convenient way to do so. I hope we can do so again in the near future. If you feel so inspired – you can send a quick email to appeals@facebook.com for me to just simply ask them to re-enable Matthew Warner’s account. Maybe that will get their attention.

They take friends off my friends list and then put them back on a couple of weeks later. My family says they never took me off and they don’t know what happened. I’ll send them an email to re-enable your account. Hopefully you get it back up and running soon.

apparently the way to do this is to set up a “fan page” for your fans to join. that keeps your “friends” who are really just fans of your blog from overwhelming your personal facebook page.

And John, I’ll have to try something different apparently if I ever get back on! But I still hadn’t gotten close to their “friend limit” of 5000. Just had too much activity somewhere I guess. But that is probably the route I’ll have to go in the future. Thanks!

The terms state they can remove anyone for any reason whenever they want with or without notice. So there’s nout you can do
Actually, that’s not true, James. I believe the limit on friends is 5000 currently. I was removed because of too much activity and because I had gotten too many friends too quickly.
They recently re-enabled my account once they realized that I wasn’t a spammer or doing anything malicious.

My account was disabled as well for this problem, I still haven’t heard back from them and I sent them numerous messages since my account was disabled on Monday, March 3. This is a pain in the ass for sure. I hope it gets fixed soon.

To answer your questions:
It took over 3 weeks to get my account back. So don’t lose hope…but be patient. They must be very back-logged when it comes to reviewing cases.
I don’t know how much emailing them over and over again and starting my own “Bring Matt Warner Back” Facebook group actually helped. Maybe it helped a lot. Maybe not at all. They are very ambiguous about it, and for understandable reasons.
I tried emailing to a number of different email addresses, but I don’t know what worked or if they even read them.
All I can say is maybe keep asking them every once in awhile, but not too often so you don’t annoy them. And then be patient. It might take weeks. And the way they are right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if it took months – for real. Hope that helps you!

yes indeed its really frustrating. mine account was disabled yesterday without any warning or message from the facebook team. i wrote a mail to them but they haven’t replied me yet. Don’t know why they disabled my account. there are so many family contact and friends contact which i cant afford to lose plus lots of album holding many memories. i guess to store photo in facebook and to rely entirely on them for communication is not advisable. i dont know what to do now???
They will respond in about three to five weeks. The reason is usually a form letter stating that you violated one or more group of terms like: too many friend requests, spamming, using a fake name or publishing false information. You might not have any of these things, but that is how Facebook is. At the rate that they are going, they will be out of business and off the Internet.

Well I have now joined the ranks of the “Disabled Account”.
I think I either had too many groups, or I posted on too many Mafia Wars Sites “Add Me” or even that I was adding friends (again for mafia wars) at an alarming rate.
Either way I have shot them off an email today, so hopefully I will hear back soon
I had close to 5000 friends and I noticed my numbers dropped by 10 or sometimes 20 friends just like that overnight without me deleting anyone. Then Id get complaints from the deleted friends on why I deleted them. I think fb does this arbitrarily. Also my account has now been disabled for almost a month. I have just about given up all hope but I’m still holding on. Far stranger things have happened to me in the past. Facebook is really a law unto itself and there is nothing we can do because we are all merely tenants with no rights whatsoever.

SO my FaceBook account was disabled – due to spamming. At first I thought there was no warning, but about 6 minutes before I was erased, there was an e-mail sent to my hotmail account, too bad wasn’t sent to my FaceBook inbox (surprsied they do not use their own system).
Anyway, I was responding to a lot of friend requests, resulting from Wall Posts I had made for Mafia Wars. It turns out that if the posts and replies are identical, or close, they consider it spamming – and you will be erased from FaceBook (temporarily hopefully).
I know of people who have added crazy amounts of people, but they do not cut and paste anything and change what they write each time… more personal and a lot slower! However, they are still on and I am not.
I am working on getting reinstated, will see how that process goes. I will definately change my strategy to be within their rules (figuring them out will be a challenge!)
So if you are adding a lot of people… make sure you are personalizing each response if you do that, and if you are posting on walls for Mafia Wars, change it up everytime, and have a cooling off period.

I don’t know why it can be like that! I didn’t received any warning from facebook! I am approving peoples who added me and suddenly I can do that and I can go into my profile. I have 2800 friends now and every 3 days there are plus of 100 walls for me… My friends are from all over the world, I like to know another persons and their culture, facebook really help me to do that! But now? What happen with my account?! I have spent manyyyy time to check my FB and there are hundreds of my photos! I’m frustating now! Please somebody help me…?! 
Why FB do that?! Are they become arrogant since many people of the world use it so they can disable any person as they wish?? I use the real name, real photos, there aren’t porn photos! But why my account is disable? There are many fake facebook account and there are porn photos, but they haven’t a problem with their account!! I’ve sent a protest to Facebook. After a long time of observations about the warnings and the de-activations of Italian facebook accounts and interviews many facebook users, I realized there is a common line which join all the users de-activated (or under warning): World War.
World War is a game developed by 6waves, it is full of bugs (used heavily from Turkish) never completely solved. 6waves has no more the control of the game.
The developers of world war have ignored all the emails and reports sent by players to point out the “very strange activities” around the game (bugs, cheat mode, bot, etc.).
In the last period we have noted too many world war players has been deactivated, or being under warning.
We hav the answer. It’s related to a trick used by Turkish.
Some of them write continously (spam) in game chat (country conference) of a certain country, often using offensive words, as soon as the (honest) players of such country reply (or try to write in the turkish chat), at least five (or more) turkish players (just waiting for) immediately point out the unlucky player and the result is… DEACTIVATION (OR WARNING). Game over.
Despite of many report and email nothing has been done!
Check in your applications if you played worldwar, maybe, you got the answer about the deactivation. Send email to 6waves and facebook admins every day.

UNBELIEVABLE! This is a problem with FB disabling accounts of users with good intentions, when they should really target the bad guys spreading virus. I’m a Real Estate professional, who mainly uses the site for networking, but little did I know, I was next to join the group of “Disabled Victim” lol. Them promoting the site as a social networking, really defeats that overall purpose. They disabled my page 2weeks ago now and all I can think of is they did so, because THEY CAN! I merely had 1000 friends, added very few friends in the course of 5months, 90% I sent email invitations to. And, if my regular “Quote of the Day”, “Month Wisdom” and other positive vibes I try to spread, prompted them to disable my page, then surely they’ve got another problem!

Add me to the list of disabled facebook pages. I had less than 500 friends. I posted maybe a few times a day. Played a few of the games. Not a major user, but certainly everyday I chatted with friends… it is after all a social networking site, right?? My ID was real, I didn’t spam, no porn or profanity… there is absolutely no reason that I can think of that would violate their TOS. Grrr. I have repeatedly emailed them since June 16, trying to find out why and to see if my profile can be reinstated. I have received a few automated messages, but no real contact. I am so sad to have lost the contacts, interaction, etc…

My account was disabled too for adding many friends. (no clear definition anywhere for that term). I had about 600 friends. Facebook does not distinguish between sending friend requests and accepting them I guess. So far I’ve sent ten e-mails to Facebook with no response. It’s really frustrating!

My facebook profile has been down for almost 3 weeks now. I have sent at least 3 emails each day to different facebook address: info@, disabled@ and appeals+dytauut@facebook.com… I have thus far received only 2 replies and those were to tell me to email from the address associated with the account. Because I accidentally sent a couple of emails from another address of mine. I don’t understand how they can answer those and not answer my others? I’ve been more than nice… explaining that I believe it to be a mistake, but that if I have done something wrong, tell me what and I would not do it again. My emails have been gracious and I’ve been careful to not blame. Still doesn’t help.
They did tell me to put the email address associated with the profile in the subject line with corresponding with them… but it does not seem to have helped.

When the page was disabled I received no messages at all. I emailed them daily asking them to go look at my page and promising to fix anything that they thought I had done to violate their TOS. I kept telling them that I was sure it had to be in error… I don’t know if that helped or not…

I think its a bit harsh due to the fact my blackberry was adding new friends without my knowledge.
I really don’t know. I don’t know what got my page back… I read some advice from a guy online who got his page back after several weeks. He said he wrote often and was apologetic rather than mad and acusatory and that’s what I did. I told them that if I did something wrong I was sorry and very willing to fix… but the thing is, I still have no idea what I did… except that they might have thought that the page was used by 2 people… they did change my user name when they returned it. My nickname is the same as my husbands name, it’s been a source of great confusion among our friends! So perhaps that was what started this? I dunno. It could also have really been a mistake. I have a very benign page, with not too many friends and not a ton of activity… no questionable content at all. I really hope that you are able to get your page back. Have you been emailing them?
I sent about 49 emails already to Facebook dating from 29/06/2009 up to today I only recieved three replies.
The first one was the automatic response and the second one was the one stating We will not be able to reactivate your account for any reason. This decision is final.
The last one was saying I have reached the wrong department I should try other facebook email addresses.
I explained to facebook how I havent been able to keep in touch with family and friends from all over the world and also told them I wasn’t aware of my blackberry sending out friends requests also explained how did was my first offence and how i never abused or harrased other users on the site.
I only use facebook to catch up with friends and family also keep updated with the groups i joined i.e charities.
Looked up on the internet if anyone has ever got their account back after being told the decision is final but bearing in mind they did not say it was permanent or there was no chance of ever retriving my photos anything along them lines.

I feel for you. I was shocked, angry, saddened and a hundred other emotions when it happened to me. It took almost three weeks. Another guy said it took him 4. I don’t think I’d give up yet. I sent 3 a day, one to each of the 3 different email addresses that I mentioned before almost every day. I know how frustrating it is… every time I log on now, I keep expecting to get the disabled message… it’s very unnerving. It broke my addiction for sure. I’m working to get contact info from all my friends, just in case…
Anne did you get everything back?,i.e was your photos and friends still there when you got your account reactivated.
I lost all the groups I belonged to and my business page seems to be gone. I think my photos are all there, but people who had tagged me in photos… those are no longer tagged. I was removed as admin of my own group page, though it was left up. I now have 4 admins on the page so I don’t lose it again. They opened it up to the public for a time and let any member admin the group. My friends, game scores, posts and other things seem to all be there. I’m not sure if my old posts are out there on other profiles… I know they were removed when my profile was disabled… actually, I think I recall seeing some older posts, so I think that was all restored.

My account has been disabled for about 12 days now. The last message I received from then was the mail above and that was it. That was about a week back.
I keep getting told to start a new one but there is no way I will because i have built up a list of friends and family which is not much just 200 and also joined groups and have too many pictures on my current account(which has been disabled) so I shall keep on fighting for my account to return so i can keep in touch with old and new friends and family memebers(emailing facebook) for my account every day.

Update on my account: My local store whom i purchased my blackberry(which was faulty) have admitted they sold me a faulty blackberry and they will refund me.
So basically my facebook was disabled due to my blackberry sending out requests which i was unaware of.
The phone dealer have advised me to explain to Facebook about this situation but do you think Facebook will understand my predictment?
Mine came back late yesterday.
All my photos were gone and mafia wars.

finally they reopened my account after 2 weeks
My FB account has been disable and FB will not respond to any of my emails. For the past 3 weeks I’ve sent them emails requesting to enable my account or provide a reason why my account was disable, I have not received any response from them. I tried to reset my password but it said my account was disabled. I sent 2 emails but from looking on web sites like this one they may not open it back up. I also followed the steps for securing my computer but I had no virus’s or trojans. My main concern is my fish wrangler game. I have spent a ton of money on the game and cant access it now. I only have 95 friends and I emailed my brother and sisters and none got spam or fake messages. I am very SAD tonight. I was in the middle of playing when the disabled my account.

My account just got disable. I am thinking about making a new account but I am just really sad because I have 70 photo albums and I was tagged in 4,000 photos from my friends and I have 1,400 friends.

Hi, about mid way through Thanksgiving Break I tried to log on to my facebook account and they gave me a message that my account had been disabled. I know I did not violate any of the terms of use. It’s been more than two weeks know that my facebook account has been disabled mistakenly it’s still not fixed yet I have contacted the disable team as mansion on the massage I sent email to them several time to disabled@facebook.com but I did not had any reply from facebook disable team yet. My account has been disabled on the 27th December 2009 and still haven been fix’s yet I am still waiting for a reply from the facebook team and to reactivate my facebook account

They just disabled me for no reason… did they ever reinstate you?
The basic reason accounts are being continuously dumped on facebook is because the system is completely overloaded now. They have expanded as much as they can, i.e. servers, etc. So those with tons of pics, videos, etc – so they dump accounts. Hence the ‘adding friends too fast’, too many messages in one day warnings. They just can’t handle the volume of activity any more, but will never admit to this.
This is the fix-all for an overloaded facebook.
Other sites do it as well. They do a mass dumping.
It sucks, but that’s the way it is.
