Get, Low, Film, Duvall, Murray

I was able to catch a sneak preview of one of the most intriguing movies I’ve watched in a while – Get Low. It stars Robert Duvall, Bill Murray and Sissy Spacek. And it’s all inspired by a true story.

For years, townsfolk have been terrified of the backwoods recluse known as Felix Bush. People say he’s done all manner of unspeakable things — that he’s killed in cold blood; that he’s in league with the Devil; that he has strange powers — and they avoid him like the plague. Then, one day, Felix rides to town with a shotgun and a wad of cash, saying he wants to buy a funeral.

But this ain’t no normal funeral. See, Felix Bush wants to attend his own funeral…alive. And he’d really like to hear what everyone else has to say about his controversial life. But it turns out Felix has a confession of his own to make. [Keep Reading]

I Love This Commerical: Ripple Effect

Thumbnail image for I Love This Commerical: Ripple Effect

I think about the future a lot and all of the wonderful life-events I hope to have in it. I think about the past some, too. But we will never actually live in the future. And we will never again live in the past. The future is just an idea. And the past is only [...]

Are you pro-woman?

Thumbnail image for Are you pro-woman?

Here are some great thoughts from Fr. Frank Pavone (video below) on how being pro-woman means being pro-life. Being pro-life means supporting both the baby and the mother.
I especially like his point on the connection between mother and baby.  He says, “the destiny and the dignity of mother and child are inextricably linked. You [...]

Theology of The Office: Michael Scott on Sex and Having Children

Even Michael Scott gets it! But in this clip, our culture’s got him second guessing himself…

Is there a New Atheism?

Thumbnail image for Is there a New Atheism?

I could sit and listen to Fr. Barron and Dr. Hahn talk about anything all day long. Such wisdom and perspective.
Anyway, here they speak a few minutes on the “New Atheism” fad. I particularly liked their comments about how our own weak or strong presentation of our faith gives rise to a weaker or stronger [...]

Is your faith “dumbed down?”

Thumbnail image for Is your faith “dumbed down?”

I think our whole culture is dumbed down when it comes to anything except technology. We can figure out our TVs and computers and iPads and cell phones just fine. I suppose we also do alright with TV personalities and pop-music.  But when it comes to literature, religion, philosophy or anything metaphysical, we are [...]

On Kneeling, Kneelers and Altar Rails, by Cardinal Arinze

Thumbnail image for On Kneeling, Kneelers and Altar Rails, by Cardinal Arinze

I love Cardinal Arinze. He’s honest and a straight shooter. Listen (below) to what he has to say on kneeling and altar rails.
I’ve been to some parishes when I’ve been traveling where they stood during consecration. In my experience, it was always just the tip of the iceberg in terms of liturgical abuse. Very sad. [...]

Must-See Video: What is your wheelchair?

Thumbnail image for Must-See Video: What is your wheelchair?

They said Christopher Coleman would be a complete “vegetable.” He would never move, walk, talk or think. He was actually pronounced dead at birth. Well, they were wrong. But the inspiration is not just how he’s overcome those things. It’s what he has to say about it all.
Give a listen (below). It’s one of the [...]

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

Thumbnail image for The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

One day in the not-so-distant future ultra-sounds will be just about as easy and common as snapping a picture on your cell phone. Pretty cool.
This video (below) is a great example of one of the ways improved technology is the pro-life movement’s friend…because, in this case, it reveals the truth.
Warms my heart. Check it out: [...]

What should Sunday Morning look like?

Thumbnail image for What should Sunday Morning look like?

This (video below) is a funny spoof on what a lot of Sunday morning “worship” services have become these days. If you’ve ever attended one of these “mega-churches” or a church with “fellowship” in the name, this will make you laugh.

Being a Real Man

Thumbnail image for Being a Real Man

I find that I need a reminder like this (video below) every day. Something to remind me to take life a bit more seriously sometimes. Stop acting like a child. So many of us “adults” these days just act like children our whole lives. It’s pathetic, really.

A Pro-life iPad App from Pampers?

Thumbnail image for A Pro-life iPad App from Pampers?

Isn’t it sad that we are surprised when a big corporation does something overtly pro-life? Most are so focused on not offending anybody that they wouldn’t dream of doing something so violent to their bottom line as promoting the dignity of an unborn baby.
So I was pleasantly surprised by this new iPad app from Pampers. [...]

Abortion Doctor Admits He is Killing

Thumbnail image for Abortion Doctor Admits He is Killing

This abortionist admits he is killing human life (I wonder if he’s that honest with his patients?). And he’s an ordained Baptist minister (now Unitarian).
Just boggles the mind, really, what humans can learn to justify in their heads – and to this extreme (video below).
